Danny is a very experienced law enforcement professional with 26 years of experience. He started his career with the San Diego PD and has been working with the Minneapolis PD since 1989. Throughout his career Danny has held numerous assignments including:
•Canine Unit Patrol Officer
•Canine Unit Supervisor
Danny has spent almost 15 years assigned to the Canine Unit both as a Patrol Officer and a Sergeant. He has trained numerous canines in patrol and explosives detection. Danny certified all of his canines through the United States Police Canine Association’s annual field trials. Over the years Danny and his canine partners have won numerous awards for excellence both during field trials and during street patrol. Danny has experience participating in and supervising high profile explosives details such as: Numerous Presidential visits, NFL and Big Ten football details.
After serving in the Canine Unit as a Patrol Officer for nearly seven years, Danny returned to lead the unit and spent eight years as Supervisor and Training Coordinator of the MPD Canine Unit. During this time he re-wrote the unit’s Policy and Procedure Manual and also developed a comprehensive Apprehension Review Procedure including strict documentation and involved officer interviews. Danny also coordinated the unit’s weekly training and critiqued the Canine Unit’s training staff in their execution of the training program.
Danny is very experienced in Canine Unit operations, Policy/ Procedure development and review, and canine deployment review.
