John Kirkwood has over 32 years of local and federal law enforcement experience. He was a federal agent for the United States Secret Service for nearly 26 years, specializing in fraud/financial crimes investigations and dignitary and
executive protection. He retired in December 2010 as the Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Field Office.
He has had the unique opportunity to have begun and ended his career in local law enforcement. He started his career in 1981 as a Police Officer for the City Lincoln, Nebraska before joining the Secret Service in 1985. Upon retirement, he
returned to local law enforcement as the Chief Deputy for the Ramsey County Sheriffs Office in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he now serves.
In addition to experience in financial crimes investigations, John has experience in protective security advances and physical executive protection including 5 years assigned to the Presidential Protective Division of the Secret Service. He also has tactical experience serving as a Team Leader for the Secret Service Counter Assault Team. John has experience with major event security planning having served as the Senior Secret Service Supervisory Official and Executive Co-Chair for the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. John has provided training in financial crimes investigations, protective intelligence/threat assessment and dignitary protection.
He is also an Adjunct Instructor at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis.
